February Updates

Date: 11-02-2024

The February meeting started with a little less gusto than usual as our 12th-standard students were studying hard for the approaching exams. However, the rest of the grades and the karyakartas joined and the meeting started promptly at 10 am.

Our compère for the meeting, Chaitrali, carried the whole meeting beautifully and with great confidence. The students were informed about the dates for CET and NEET exams.

The students were also shown a film on Anjali Modak. Visually challenged, her story inspired the students. The motive behind this screening was to help them appreciate just how good we have it in life even when we’re upset things aren’t going the way we want them to.

The next meeting is scheduled for 10th March.

DU Foundation has extended a helping hand to the Mahila Mandal School by generously donating eight sturdy cupboards. This act aims to enhance the school’s organisational capabilities, providing a secure space to store vital documentations, children’s records, and educational resources.
The donation comes as a significant boon to the Mahila Mandal School, which has faced with problem of limited storage facilities. With the addition of these cupboards, the school can now efficiently manage and safeguard essential paperwork, including administrative documents and academic records, ensuring a streamlined and systematic approach to record-keeping.
This invaluable resource will not only enrich the learning experience of the students but also foster a culture of literacy and knowledge sharing within the institution.

July – The Arrival of Monsoon & Some Exciting Happenings

Date: 02-07-2023

Amidst the heavy rains and soothing smells, Foundation activities continued as usual. The monthly meeting was held on 2nd July and enthusiastic students participated in large numbers.

A number of students took the initiative to present something during the meeting and overcome their fear of public speaking.

Arun Chavar gave a motivating speech about Nobel prize winners which he had read and asked students to read the same..

Bhagyashree Somavate held a discussion about the second chapter of the Bhagavad Gita. Diving into a few nuggets, she explained how the teachings of the Gita are valid and applicable to our lives even today, after thousands of years. Her session concluded with a strong message to her fellow students – Keep working without any exceptions.

The message is something she keeps close to her heart herself. The daughter of a porter, Bhagyashree’s family struggled to make ends meet.  In spite of all the hardships her family faced, her parents staunchly supported her education and encouraged her to continue pursuing her studies.

She threw herself in NEET preparations and scored 503 marks. Hearing her regale her story was an inspiration to many students. Her success brings pride to the Foundation.

We heartily applaud her determination and wish her all the best for admission into her dream college.

Students enrolled in the ITI have recently completed their course and sent their thanks to the Foundation and Shelavale sir for arranging residence and meals for them in Shahapur.

Under Mr Dewal’s guidance, Mr Pitale, other karyakartas and the headmistress of Andad School, Mrs Vishe, addressed the parents and children in and around Andad on the importance of education. These sessions would play a big role in curbing high school dropouts.

To encourage oration and public speaking among the students, special activities are being planned to cultivate a habit of reading and reduce stage fear.

4 th June 23

Date: 04-06-2023

This meeting coincided with the 11th Foundation day and was a very noteworthy occasion. Although there was no great pomp, our esteemed guests made the meeting special. The headmistress of Andad School, Mrs Vishe, graced the meeting alongside staff  Nitin Dev Trustee Mr Kulkarni as well as well-wishers Mrs Kharade and Mr and Dr Mrs Dalvi. They all wished the foundation and also expressed their hopes and aspirations for the students. They also gave the students a word of advice.

Over the past months, we’ve been asking students to discuss the books that they read. This activity has proved to be beneficial in eliminating stage fear in the students. Another benefit is that the students have started participated willingly, thereby encouraging their sense of adventure and curiosity. Cultivating reading as a hobby means that a well of knowledge awaits all these young minds.

Another activity that we are encouraging students to take part in is the narration of stories from Mahabharata and Ramayan as well as their learnings and understandings from the Bhagvad Gita. Mr Vaibhav Katre narrated a story from Mahabharata. Ms Harshala Tare spoke about the first chapter of the Bhagvad Gita. This activity continues to create interest in students and we hope the students learn and apply the nuggets of wisdom buried in out history and mythology.

We’re immensely proud to announce that Sahil Dinkar has cleared all his CA examinations is now working for an international company. Sahil comes from a poor family and was using the study centres provided by the Foundation for his preparation.

Sahil recently visited the Foundation and spoke about his experience with the students. He advised the students to set an aim and continue to work hard towards it with single-minded determination. He also had tips on how to study and avoid distractions.

Ms Jayanti Mane interviewed Ms Gauri Parab who has finished her B.Sc. in Nursing and is now helping save lives at Tata Cancer Hospital as an Operation Theatre Nurse. She also spoke to the  students and offered to guide students  about the various courses and avenues available. She also volunteered to help interested students.

Mr Yash Chandan was also a part of the meeting. He’s currently studying B.Arch. and is in his first year. He guided the students who wanted to choose architecture as a career.

Mr Dewal and Mr Pitale visited Andad School along with the school’s headmistress Mrs Vishe to investigate why students were dropping out after completing standard 7.

They also met up with the school’s ex-students to know more about their life and occupation after completing their schooling.

All this surveying is to pinpoint issues with the current curriculum and figure out which courses should be offered so that students can stay in the village to carry out business to help the local economy.

May Mayhem

Date: 07-05-2023

The last meeting of the academic year was held on the 7th of May. The student’s moods ranged from relaxed to anxious. Some have finished their exams and are ready to embrace the summer holidays and chill. Others still have exams approaching and are hard at work preparing for them.

The Foundation encouraged the students to review and discuss the books they had recently read. In addition, everyone also talked about why they would recommend reading these books. Mrs Veena Dewal came forward with a terrific book recommendation – Atomic Habits. Many students enjoyed learning about the nuggets of wisdom from the book.

Kicking off the month in a genuinely EPIC fashion, students were asked to narrate a story from the Ramayan and Mahabharata in future meetings. The students are unaware of these epics and in this way, they get to explore and find wisdom in the stories that they relate to.

Vaibhav Katre shared a story from Ramayan and Vaibhav Nikite narrated the story of Karn and his plight from Mahabharata.

Mr Vishal Sakale, a young entrepreneur from Shahapur was the guest speaker in this meeting. He inspired the students with his story and spoke about overcoming obstacles and having a positive mindset. One very important aspect of his speech was his focus on hard work. He told the students how there’s no alternative to perseverance and how he still works 12 hours despite having achieved so much.

Mr Pratik Sawant was also invited to explain the various short courses the students can pursue in the IT section. He spoke about the courses which can be pursued in vacation and also discussed how the students can improve job opportunities for themselves.

Prajkta kongere studing in 1 St Year GNM at Sau meenatai Thakre  institute of nursing  TMC Thane Won the first prize in Fundamentals of nursing and  1 st price also in community health nursing.

A 10 on 10 month!

Date: 05-12-2022

November paved the way for good vibes as we kickstarted December after DU Foundation’s 10th annual celebration.

The event was a hit with everyone, especially our guests of honor who were very impressed with the Foundation’s work as well as the progress and potential showcased by the students.

Our Chief Guest of Honor, Mrs. Arundhati Bhalerao, is a social worker with a Ph.D. in Dramatics. She was amazed by the Foundation’s efforts and the student’s stellar communication skills and confidence developed through the Foundation’s various programs. To encourage the willingness and the thirst for learning amongst the youth, she has shared her mobile van full of books with small villages.

Our second guest of honor was Mr. Sagar Reddy. Born and raised in an orphanage, social issues surrounding orphans are close to his heart. Orphans receive very little support in the world without a benefactor once they turn 18. Being intimately aware of what this feels like, Sagar has vowed to help out individuals through this phase.

A very successful event, it was indeed a day filled with joy, pride, and delight.

After a month of bustling activity and excitement for the function, students settled back into their everyday routines. A monthly meeting was held on December 4 and all students were appreciated for their active participation. The meeting ended with a viewing of the annual celebration video.

Another student, Harshala tare , has completed her engineering with an 8.92 percentile. The Foundation is immensely proud of her achievement and wishes her all the luck for her journey ahead.

The Foundation is thus very proud and glad that so many years of inculcating the reading habit in students has come to fruition.

With the annual day just around the corner, students have enthusiastically started preparing and enrolled in the cultural program. This year,  Foundation has completed 10 successful years of helping the community and the celebration is going to be big and joyous.

MID DECEMBER UPDATES & WINS

Date: 16-12-2021

Classrooms are an integral part of a child’s educational journey. Proper ventilation, soothing colours, good lighting and proper seating are all important to ensure that a child is comfortable and is able to make the most of his time at school. A school at Vehloli was in very poor shape due to lack of proper flooring. This led to rodents and other creatures moving freely in the building, causing destruction of property and loss of books and important documents. The Foundation is helping the school build proper infrastructure. The work is already underway and is expected to be complete within a fortnight. 5th December was the day of the Foundation’s monthly meet up. The eminent invitees were Mr. Shailendra Salvi (Chairman) and Mr. Ravindra Tamaras (Treasurer) of Dadar’s General Education Institute, Rajput Sir (Headmaster) and Mrs. Sushma Shendge (Teacher) of Thane’s M. H. High School. They were very impressed with the the work the Foundation has been doing and were interested in joining hands for future endeavours. They also shared their experiences with students.
